Digitalization of education: Premises, promises and consequences
For quite some time now – long before the Corona pandemic forced us to teach with digital tools – digitalization of education has been celebrated as a remedy to a wide range of problems within the education sector. From preschool to universities, digital technologies have been launched as the “next step” of the evolution of education. Many influential actors and policy-makers have framed digitalization as both a revolutionary reformation and a quick fix for what is seen as a broken education system. From the spring of 2020 “zooming” has become an unquestionable part of pedagogical work. Most likely, many pedagogical practices that have developed as consequences of the pandemic are here to stay, also in a post-Corona world. It is now time to take stock of this development and start to think and talk about what digitalization means for the practice of teaching and learning, what it promises and the various consequences it entails.
This seminar series, organized by AHU (Division for Higher Education Development) at Lund University aims to offer an arena for such reflections and discussions. The seminar is an opportunity to learn more about digitalization of education, to discuss, to argue, to share experiences and to critically reflect on the effects of digitalization on all levels of the education system.
